Superintendent Runey was recently interviewed by WJAR/Turn to 10 as part of a broader conversation on recent studies showing statewide enrollment declines. In the interview, he shares how Dighton-Rehoboth is responding proactively by reengaging families and expanding opportunities for students through academics, Early College classes, CTE pathways, and strong arts and athletic programs. #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS 🎥 Watch the interview: https://youtu.be/M70aNNEN9Iw

Happy Holidays

I graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 1965 and went on to Northeastern University, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts as a math major while playing four years on the men’s basketball team. In 1970, I married my high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Hopkins, and soon after began my career in education. I taught mathematics and coached freshmen basketball at Somerset High School from 1970 to 1973.

In 1973, Superintendent Joseph C. Harrington hired me to return to DRRHS as a math teacher and boys’ basketball coach. I spent the next 24 years on the sidelines, and in 1990, I was honored to serve as President of the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches’ Association. I also completed my Master of Education in School Administration from Bridgewater State University in 1984 and served as Mathematics Department Head from 1991 to 1995.

From 1997 to 2002, I served as Assistant Principal at DRRHS before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, where I worked until my retirement in 2006. Along the way, I also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976.

Liz and I raised two children who make us incredibly proud: Erika (DRRHS 1995, Duke University 1999) and Steven (DRRHS 2002, Western New England University 2006). Our greatest joy now comes from our four grandchildren—Benjamin, Emerson, Matthew, and Annie—who fill our lives with energy and laughter.

In retirement, I enjoy golf, fishing, and staying connected to the community. In 2025, I was proud to return once more to DRRHS as a member of the branding committee for the high school’s new visual identity.

Looking back, I am grateful for a career centered on education, athletics, and service—and for the family and community that have supported me throughout the journey.

DR Holiday Concert Magic! This evening Dighton Rehoboth Regional High School was filled with the sounds of the season as our DRRHS Chorus and Band delivered a spectacular Holiday Concert that truly captured the spirit of the holidays. A special shout-out goes to the Dighton Middle School 8th Grade Band and Chorus, who joined our high school musicians on many of the selections. Seeing our DMS and DRRHS students perform together was a powerful celebration of the collaboration and community at the heart of our performing arts programs. Special thanks to Mrs. Voccio, Mr. Botelho, Mr. Brundage, and Ms. Lopez for putting such a fantastic performance together! #WeAreDR #DT2030 #EIS #SomethingForEveryone

Special Education
On November 17 and 18, DRRHS welcomed students from Dighton Middle School and Beckwith Middle School for an inside look at our seven Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs!

Students explored hands-on learning spaces in Automotive Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Carpentry, Engineering & Drafting, Early Childhood Education, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, and TV & Media Production. They asked questions, checked out real tools and equipment, and discovered how each program could connect to future careers and even college pathways.

Of course, no DR visit is complete without a little fun! Many students walked away with swag like DR bracelets, keychains, hats, and other surprises. More importantly, they left with a better understanding of all the exciting opportunities waiting for them at our high school.

We’re thrilled to help our future Falcons start imagining which path might be the perfect fit to shape their interests, talents, and goals. We can’t wait to ignite their curiosity and see where it takes them next!
